What do the qualifications cover?

These qualifications focus on the knowledge, understanding, and skills that are needed for the preparation of employment, and support learners to develop the essential transferrable skills and attributes that are valued by employers.

Who are they suitable for?

The qualifications are suitable for a wide range of learners, including:

  • learners aged 14 - 19 entering the workforce for the first time
  • the unemployed
  • adult returners seeking to re-enter the workplace
  • people in employment who wish to develop their employability skills
  • learners not in education, employment or training

What are the entry requirements?

You should be at least 14 years old.

How are they assessed?

All units will be internally assessed using a range of methods. This could include optional tasks set by us, coursework or portfolio of evidence.

How many credits are required to complete them?

To gain the Award, learners must achieve a minimum of 9 credits. To gain the Certificate, learners must achieve a minimum of 15 credits.

How long do they take to complete?

The Level 1 Award in Developing Employability Skills can usually be completed in 6 months or less. The Level 1 Certificate in Developing Employability Skills can usually be completed in one year or less.

Do you need to be working to take the qualification?

Learners do not need to be working or undertaking practical placements to take these qualifications.

What related qualifications can you progress to?

The Award and Certificate support learners to develop the essential transferrable skills and attributes that are valued by employers.

Learners taking the Award can progress onto the Level 1 Certificate in Developing Employability Skills, which will allow learners to build upon their employability skills, through achievement of a wider selection of units.

Learners taking the Certificate can also progress their learning to vocational qualifications, such as the Level 1 Award, Certificate and Diploma in Introduction to Health, Social Care and Children's and Young People's Setting, or the Level 2 Certificate in an Introduction to Early Years Education and Care.

The qualifications are designed to break down barriers for entering the workplace, by building a learner's confidence to enable them to apply for, secure and sustain employment across a range of sectors.
